When it comes to how links to Office files should open, some users prefer the Office web apps, others prefer the Office desktop apps. We've designed an experience where you get to decide what you prefer, and then your links open in your preferred mode - either the Office web apps or the Office desktop apps.

If your Office for business subscription plan includes the desktop version of the Microsoft 365 apps you won't see an option to install it unless someone in your organization assigned a license to you.

Your install is finished when you see the phrase, "You're all set! Office is installed now" and an animation plays to show you where to find Microsoft 365 applications on your computer. Select Close.

After signing in with your work or school account you don't see an option to install the desktop applications on the Microsoft 365 home page, go directly to the Microsoft 365 Software page instead. Select the language and bit-version you want (PC users can choose between 32-bit and 64-bit), and then click Install. See Step 2 and 3 on the PC or Mac tabs above to help you with the rest of the install process.

Microsoft 365 won't install: Your computer must be running a supported operating system to install Microsoft 365. You can find a list of which systems are supported on the system requirements page. For example, your install won't be successful if you're trying to install Microsoft 365 on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows XP operating system. If your computer can't install the full desktop version of Microsoft 365, try the free Office Online apps using your desktop browser.

If you're the Microsoft 365 admin of an Office for business plan, users in your organization can only install Microsoft 365 using the steps in this topic as long as your plan includes the desktop version of Microsoft 365, and you've assigned the user a license and given them permission to install Microsoft 365 (Manage software download settings in Microsoft 365).

Excel for the web looks a lot like the Excel desktop app. However, there are some differences to be aware of. For example, not all file formats are supported, and some features may work differently than the desktop app. This article explains these differences.

Different applications can be used to display a workbook in a browser window. Depending on how your environment is configured, you could be using Excel for the web (part of Office for the web), Excel Web App (part of Office Web Apps on premises), or Excel Services in SharePoint Server (on premises) to view a workbook in a browser window.

A Microsoft Office file can be edited directly in Microsoft Teams or in the file's corresponding desktop app. However, when you try to edit an Office file in its desktop app, the desktop app option is missing.

When you open an Microsoft 365 file from your OneDrive or SharePoint while signed in with a work or school account, it sometimes opens in the online version of the Microsoft 365 app (such as Word) instead of the desktop app. (However, you or your IT admin may have changed a setting so that files open in the desktop app.) Alternately, it may open as read-only when you want to edit the file.

.NET MAUI is open-source and is the evolution of Xamarin.Forms, extended from mobile to desktop scenarios, with UI controls rebuilt from the ground up for performance and extensibility. If you've previously used Xamarin.Forms to build cross-platform user interfaces, you'll notice many similarities with .NET MAUI. However, there are also some differences. Using .NET MAUI, you can create multi-platform apps using a single project, but you can add platform-specific source code and resources if necessary. One of the key aims of .NET MAUI is to enable you to implement as much of your app logic and UI layout as possible in a single code-base.

Prior to this feature rollout, clicking a PowerPoint, Word, or Excel file shared in Teams would open the file in Teams. Users could then select the option to open the file in the browser or Office desktop app.

Note: The option to choose 'Desktop app' is only available when using the Teams desktop app for Windows or macOS and only applies to that device. The Teams web app only shows options for 'Teams' and 'Browser'.

@RichLusk Turns out it is the version. Mine was updated today, but was .17 something. Manually updated and that made the desktop app option available. Just get the latest update ( (64-bit)) and you're in business. Finally!!! :)

I am new to this and am having problems with finding the Power Automate Desktop application to use on a Mac with a Mac OS. I have Microsoft apps on my Mac (Word, PPT, Outlook, etc) that I'd like to automate with. Is there not a desktop option of Power Automate for this? Thank you so much!!

There are keyboard shortcuts to accomplish a vast array of tasks in the Excel desktop client, in both the Windows and Mac versions. (Fewer shortcuts are available for the Mac, but you can create your own custom keyboard shortcuts if you like.)

Microsoft announced yesterday that it has started rolling out the Automate tab to Excel for Windows and macOS. The latest update lets desktop users create and edit Office scripts to automate their repetitive spreadsheet tasks or workflows.

Up until now, the Automate tab was only available for customers in Excel on the web. With this release, the Excel desktop app helps users to record their actions as a reusable script and then play that script when needed to boost efficiency.

Microsoft Office is an office suite of desktop applications, servers and services for the Microsoft Windows and Mac operating systems. It includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. Microsoft Office is standard on all KU-owned workstations for faculty and staff.

VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) is the programming language of Excel (more precisely, Microsoft Office). It is used not only in Excel but for Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft applications too.

To add Dropbox as a Place, open your Dropbox desktop app preferences and check the box next to Show Dropbox as a save location in Microsoft Office. To remove Dropbox as a Place, uncheck the box.

The online apps are convenient. You can open a file quickly, make changes and save those changes in SharePoint or OneDrive automatically. Despite the convenience, if
